Mr. Poon in Makati City, Philippines

These photos are a blast from the past. When we are in a restaurant, blogger instincts kick in and I take photos of the food and immediate surroundings. My friends have become so accustomed to it that when their food would arrive, they would automatically keep their hands off so I can tinker with my camera phone.

Mr. Poon, a Chinese restaurant in Makati City, Philippines was one of our favorite haunts, simply because it is right across our office in Makati. So when we would like to have something out of the ordinary, we'd treat ourselves something special at Mr. Poon.

We love their rice toppings! Each plateful of goodness is just right for a hungry man's apetite, and the ladies would sometimes share a plate when they're not ravenously famished.

Pardon me if I no longer remember the names of these dishes but if you visit the restaurant in Makati, you will see some keywords in the menu right there...

Pork and tofu in tausi sauce
This is my favorite! Which is wierd because I forgot how the exact name! The tofu's soft, smooth texture complements the chewy pork bits, and the sweet tausi sauce simply blends it all together.

I think this is the double-cooked pork...

I also order this quite often. Ampalaya beef rice. Crunchy slices of bitter gourd with beef slices. The bitter gourd is not so bitter at all!

Sweet and sour pork! The bell peppers are extra crunchy!

Vegetable rice topping. This is like chopsuey. Come to think of it, this must be called Chopsuey rice!

The steamed lapu-lapu is for sharing. This dish is sooo delicious.

So if ever you are in the corner of Valero Street and Dela Costa Street in Salcedo Village, Makati City, Philippines and you are due for lunch or dinner, drop by Mr. Poon for good Chinese food!

UPDATE: Mr Poon is no longer in business in Salcedo Village :-(

  4. Tol pare, magandang idea yun! Kahit na malapit ito dun sa corner foodstalls, hindi naman competition sa pizza at binalot!
