We had vegetable tempura for dinner, and I was scouring the internet for a dipping sauce recipe. Unfortunately, most of them called for mirin which we did not have readily available in the kitchen. However, I found this one from Cooks.com that was an excellent companion, not only for the vegetable tempura, but also for the roast chicken our friends brought over. But instead of sticking with the original recipe (unfortunately I can no longer find the link), I substituted grated onion with grated garlic.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup warm water
1 tbsp grated ginger
1 tbsp grated garlic
Procedure:
Mix all ingredients together. Serve on small bowls. That's it! And as I mentioned previously, it's really great for roast chicken too. Reminded me of this gingery sauce used in Chinese restaurants.

Mirin is a sweet type of rice wine, so the recipe is actually lacking sugar :D grated onion is optional for me, but garlic is a nice twist to it :D
ReplyDeleteHi Brian! It costs around $7.00 (PhP2210.00) for a small bottle of mirin. Very expensive. I wonder if sugar will have a similar effect...
