Union City, CA - Filipino American families and their friends gathered for the “Last Summer Hurrah!” with its Labor Day celebration at the 7th Annual Adobo Festival from 10:00am to 6:00pm last September 1 and September 2, 2012 at the Veterans Park (formerly Hall Ranch Park) in Union City, California.
Union City’s Vice Mayor Pat Gascoscos and her fellow Filipino American Councilmember Jim Navarro welcomed their local and out-of-town guests and special guests — to mention a few — such as California State Senator Leland Yee and Alameda County Commissioner Dr. Jennifer Hidalgo Ong. With over 80 booths that sold food, ethnic-made products, and services to an average packed crowd of 4,000-plus on each day, there was something for everyone.
Among the festival’s enthusiastic grassroots cultural advocates was Rev. Father Geoffrey Baraan, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church, who had made announcements from the pulpit for parishioners to join the celebration in what he believes is “the city’s largest festival to-date.”
